Wadham Lodge continued their impressive start to the new season on Wednesday by knocking local rivals Waltham Forest out of the Gordon Brasted Trophy on penalties.

The two Essex Senior League sides could not be separated after 90 minutes and so it took spot kicks to send Lodge into round two with a 4-2 triumph.

Tony Ievoli’s side lost former Forest man Steve Ellery after 20 minutes to a red card for kicking out, but refused to fold.

Forest had struck the first blow when Didier Grah O’Pily scored after 29 minutes. However, Lodge levelled from the penalty spot via Ashley Bankole eight minutes into the second half.

Lodge go to Greenhouse Sports on Saturday, whilst Forest host Sawbridgeworth Town.
