Waltham Abbey will travel to Harrow Borough in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 victory over North Greenford United on Saturday.

The winning goal came after just 21 minutes when Jason Hallett set up top scorer James Peagram and he headed the hosts in front.

Abbey had the chance to extend their lead through Peagram but his shot was blocked by a defender.

United should have equalised at the start of the second period but George Moore’s shot struck the side netting to the hosts’ relief.

The visitors went close again through Moore but he was denied by goalkeeper James May.

Abbey were holding on towards the end and survived another attack when David Manu’s shot was parried and May kept out Karl Brown’s follow up.

The home side were awarded a penalty when Darrell Russell was brought down by Andrew Manitou. This resulted in a red card but Russell’s spot-kick was kept out after an excellent save from Liam Watson.

Abbey should have killed off the contest through Hallett but he fired wide when through on goal but it did not prove costly as they clinched their place in the next round.

Abbey snatched a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw at Great Wakering Rovers in Ryman League Division One North on Tuesday night.

The visitors trailed at half-time after a 41st-minute goal from Tom Ranger. But Abbey battled back in the second half and their pressure was rewarded when James Elmes rescued a point.

Abbey return home this weekend as they host Brentwood Town in the league.

Redbridge climbed off the bottom of the Ryman North table on Tuesday after a 4-1 win at fellow strugglers Cray Wanderers.

A brace from Shane Wallace set them on their way before a Vinny Murphy goal and a penalty from Mark Nougher sealed the victory.

It was the team’s first win since beating Burnham Ramblers back in the middle of August.

The result was a major boost following Redbridge’s 2-0 home defeat to Thamesmead Town on Saturday.

The loss stretched their winless run to eight matches as their miserable start to the season continued.

Thamesmead opened the scoring in the first half after an unstoppable shot from Sean Roberts.

Redbridge’s lack of confidence was all too apparent as they struggled to create any noteworthy chances during the contest.

Their hopes of earning a point were ended with ten minutes remaining when Derek Duncan ran on to a loose ball and fired past the home keeper.

The Motormen will hope for an upturn in form this weekend when they host fellow strugglers Maldon & Tiptree.

Waltham Forest’s disappointing recent form continued after losing 2-1 at Newham in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

The visitors had an early opportunity to take the lead but Jose Agua was denied when the keeper managed to tip his shot onto the woodwork.

But Newham grabbed the opener when Dan Crowie neatly volleyed home from a tight angle.

There were no shortage of chances for Forest but Agua failed to take advantage of the opportunities as the visitors could not find an equaliser.

Their misses proved costly as Newham made it 2-0 when Jon Sexton brought down Crowie in the area. Danny Gabriel stepped up against his old club and converted the penalty to extend Newham’s lead.

But Forest responded to this setback and pulled one back when James Ogunleye volleyed in a free-kick.

The visitors could not find an equaliser though, as they fell to their third consecutive defeat.

Forest will look to get back on track this Saturday when they host Sawbridgeworth Town.
