An academy CEO is seeking to expand into more primaries after its school gets an ‘outstanding’ report.

Barclay Primary School in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, and Canterbury Road, Leyton, received ‘outstanding’ in all five categories of its Ofsted report following an inspection last month.

The pupils’ “exemplary” attitude and their “determination to achieve the very best” was highlighted in the report which also praised the “exceptional preparation” for secondary education.

The Lion Academy Trust manages the primary which is one of the country’s largest with more than 1,200 pupils spread over two sites.

CEO of the trust, Justin James said: “The Trust is seeking to grow as an organisation, both locally in Waltham Forest and further afield.

“Clearly the Department of Education is keen for outstanding providers to work with schools of all types to form strong, high performing trusts as the next generation of governance and oversight for education services.

“The Lion Academy Trust would be delighted to work with any of the local primary schools, either seeking an education-led trust to fit into or to work to support schools in difficulties in turning things around to becoming outstanding in their own right.”

A new Barclay Secondary Free School is opening in September 2017 with the academy hoping to become the first ‘outstanding’ primary and secondary school in the borough.
