Students voting for the first time are getting excited to hear London’s mayoral candidates address the issues affecting them most.
Pupils from Sir George Monoux Sixth Form College in Walthamstow are attending the Citizens UK Mayoral Accountability Assembly today (April 28) in the Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Park from 7pm.
More than 100 students will hear Labour’s Sadiq Khan and Conservative’s Zac Goldsmith address issues including jobs for young people and the living wage.
A Level student, Charis Benefo said: “I am really looking forward to hearing Zac and Sadiq’s responses.
“I am a first time voter who hasn’t decided who to vote for so I hope to gain clarity on which of the two mayoral candidates are serious about issues that affect me.”
Many pupils have been voicing their experiences of London’s housing crisis for Citizens UK’s listening campaign.
Citizens UK have also given students access to training and apprenticeships through its good jobs initiative.
