The CEO of a children’s hospice has received a Mayor’s award for more than 30 years of community service.

Chief executive of Haven House Children’s Hospice in Woodford Green Mike Palfreman was presented with his Mayor’s Civic Award on April 12, just a few weeks before he celebrated five years there.

The annual event recognises the achievements of those who give up their time to help their community.

Mayor of Havering Cllr Brian Eagling presented Mr Palfreman with his award for his work at Haven House, Age Concern Havering, and disability charity the 3H Club.

Mr Palfreman said: “I felt immensely privileged to be recognised in this way, particularly as I have lived in Havering all my life.

“It was my volunteering with the 3H Club that led to me first finding paid work in the voluntary sector which in turn has ultimately led me here to Haven House.”
