A memorial service led by the Met commissioner is set to take place tomorrow for a police officer killed on duty.

PC Phillip Walters was shot dead on April 18 1995 while attending a call-out at a house in Empress Avenue, Ilford.

The 28-year-old joined the MPS in September 1993 and was posted to Ilford in February 1994.

It was during a late shift in April 1995 that PC Walters and his colleagues attended a disturbance at a house in Empress Avenue.

As they tried to arrest a man, PC Walters was shot in the chest.

A second police constable was also injured as he struggled to hold onto the suspect until help arrived.

Met commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, will lead the tributes at the service at 11am at the memorial stone in Empress Avenue.

Ray Lee was jailed for manslaughter at the Old Bailey in June 1996.
