Four armed robbers were arrested during a raid on a bank.

Police were called to Santander in High Street, Walthamstow, at 3.15am on Sunday morning, where four attempted robbers were held and a getaway car seized, according to a witness.

A spokesman for Santander confirmed they were assisting police inquiries into the incident, but added that no customer money had been taken from the branch.

Staff at the bank said that it is open to the public today but without any counter service, despite the main entrance and front windows of the building being damaged in the incident.

An eyewitness said that around 20 police officers, some with dogs, attended the attempted robbery.

The police have been contacted for comment.
