A karate club was awash with medals at a regional finals.

The Waltham Abbey Karate Club, based at Waltham Abbey Sports Centre in Roundhills, took gold, silver and bronze at the annual SKE Karate Championships held this year at Harlow Leisurezone.

Clubs from all over London and the South of England took part in the event and Waltham Abbey returned home with more gold medals than any other club beating Wanstead, Walthamstow and Chingford karate clubs.

Black Belt Samantha Burton aged 13 scored a hat trick of gold and silver in the kata and kumite sparring events.

Dina Kitchenside, an adult member, took gold in the ladies sparring event, and was presented the best female competitor of the day.

The club trains at Waltham Abbey Pool on Saturdays from 11.00am and on Thursdays at Waltham Abbey Sports Centre from 6.00pm.
